As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Having previously served as a columnist or contributing editor for three journals published respectively by the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, and Elsevier, since 2010, Mr. Stankus has been Editor-in-Chief of Science & Technology Libraries, published by Taylor & Francis, and widely regarded as the leading journal in its field.

Mr. Stankus graduated with a degree in Modern Foreign Languages from the College of the Holy Cross, summa cum laude, in 1973, with the Greater Worcester Alumni Association of that school naming him its Crusader of the Year in 2006. In 1975, he earned his MLS from the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Library & Information Studies, which then named him its Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 1992, and in 2013, subsequently ranked him among the top 50 most influential graduates in the school's 50 year history.
