St. Mary’s Catholic Church was the setting Dec. 28, 2024, for the wedding of Mirna Luna-Ramos, Glenolden, and Thomas Martin Shaffern, Pottstown. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guillermo Luna and Clara Ramos, Glenolden. The bridegroom is the son of Robert and Elizabeth Shaffern, Scranton.

The Rev. Christopher Eichman officiated at the 1 p.m. ceremony.

Brenda Luna Ramos, Glenolden, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Caroline Shaffern, Scranton, Christina Shaffern, Scranton, and Monica La Haye, McLean, Va., sisters of the bridegroom; Laura Luna Ramos, Crum Lynne, Pa., sister of the bride; and Madison Eppers, Lansdale.

Allison Hernandes, Glenolden, and Brianna Luna, Crum Lynne, Pa., nieces of the bride, were flower girls.

Donald La Haye, McLean, Va., brother-in-law of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were John Gillenkirk, Conshohocken; Charles Marcozzi, Bridgeport, Pa.; Andrew Dauby, Conshohocken; Carlos Hernandes, Glenolden, and Pascual Tlacopilco, both of Glenolden, brothers-in-law of the bride.

James La Haye, McLean, Va., nephew of the bridegroom, and William Hernandes, Glenolden, nephew of the bride, were ring bearers.

A reception was held at Springmill Fire Ballroom, Conshohocken.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, the bride is a graduate of G.W. Carver High School of Engineering and Science and Thomas Jefferson University’s JeffSTAT Paramedic program. She is now a 911 paramedic in Whitemarsh Twp.

Born and raised in Scranton, the bridegroom is a graduate of Holy Cross High School and University of Scranton. He is now a high school teacher in the Reading School District.

After a chance meeting online, Mirna and Thomas started their story together at Kabuki Japanese Restaurant on their first date. Over sushi, the two knew that they had found their person.

The couple, who took a wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, resides in Pottstown.
