Hyundai Engineering halts construction projects nationwide after another fatal accident

All News 15:19 March 11, 2025

SEOUL, March 11 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Engineering Co. on Tuesday suspended construction activities at all of its sites across the country amid a series of fatal accidents, including an incident at an apartment project the previous day, company officials said.

According to the officials, Hyundai Engineering has issued a directive ordering an immediate suspension of work at all of its construction sites nationwide, including infrastructure and residential projects.

The company currently manages around 80 construction projects throughout the country.

The decision comes a day after a fatal accident at a project site in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul, left one worker dead and another injured.

The move also comes two weeks after a deadly bridge collapse at a highway construction site near Seoul claimed the lives of four workers while leaving six others injured.

"Each site has different circumstances, but work will be halted nationwide until individual safety assessments are completed. The duration of the suspension will vary depending on each site's conditions," a company official said.
