Limerick firm represents Ireland at European awards event in Slovenia

A PRECISION Engineering Firm based in Limerick is among a group of Irish engineering companies that recently represented Ireland at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards in Slovenia.

Takumi is a member of the Emerald Aero Group, a cluster of indigenous Irish Engineering Companies.

Emerald Aero Group were selected to represent Ireland earlier this year, having been shortlisted as one of the final 16 projects to compete at a European level.

The winning project was Spanish project Iberian Centre for research and forest firefighting.

Takumi joined Emerald Aero Group in 2017 to work with other Irish indigenous companies to scale and grow Irish Aerospace.

Gerry Reynolds, founder and MD of Takumi Precision, also founded the Emerald Aero Group, along with 13 other Irish Engineering Companies.

Takumi, a fusion of Irish creativity and Japanese culture was formed in 1998 and are experts in bespoke medical, pharmaceutical, aerospace and industrial component assembly and manufacturing.

Based in Raheen Business Park, Takumi has grown its workforce from 80 and will create an additional 60 new jobs over the next four years.

Gerry Reynolds, Director of Takumi said: “It is such a huge honour to be involved with Emerald Aero Group who were selected nationally to represent Ireland earlier this year, and have now been shortlisted as one of the final 16 projects who competed at a European level. It is massive recognition for the work which takes place within our group to compete for Aerospace business globally”

Emerald Aero Group represented Ireland in the category, ‘Supporting the internationalisation of business’. Emerald Aero Group operate on the basis that “We are stronger together. The Cluster market themselves collectively, by attending trade shows and engaging pathfinders, shared knowledge through combining resources under the Emerald umbrella.  The category, supporting the internationalisation of business, recognises initiatives that encourage enterprises and particularly small and medium-sized businesses to benefit more from the opportunities offered by markets, both inside and outside the EU.

Emerald Aero Group are supported by Enterprise Ireland through the REDF fund. David Lucey, Senior Development Advisor, Engineering Markets, Enterprise Ireland said “Emerald Aero Group are an exemplary industry-led cluster, which facilitates growing Irish companies with key sector expertise to join forces, form consortiums and share widespread industry knowledge in a bid to win greater contracts against contending larger companies across the aerospace sector. Enterprise Ireland supports this group to develop overseas market opportunities. The collaborative consortium approach strengthens their offering to the global market.
