The local government of Muntinlupa is subsidizing the tuition of more than a hundred students in the engineering college soon opening in the city.

In a statement, Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said scholarships await select members of the first class of city-funded Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM), which is located on Posadas Street, Barangay Sucat.

The scholarships, however, are available to city residents only, and their parents or guardians should be registered voters living in Muntinlupa at least for the last two years.

For nonresidents who wish to enroll, the tuition is P28,000 per semester, according to Tez Navarro, the city’s public information officer.

Admission is ongoing at CDM’s satellite office on the 3rd floor of Muntinlupa Plaza Central on Rizal Avenue, Poblacion. For details, visit CDM’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/colegiodemuntinlupa/ or call 8626821, 0915-6834936, 0999-3574507. A fee of P300 will be collected on the test dates scheduled for Jan. 20 and 27.

Currently under construction and funded by the city government, the P98-million CDM will offer five engineering courses when it starts classes on Aug. 6: civil, computer, electrical, electronics and mechanical.

The faculty includes Nathaniel Hermosa, an Outstanding Young Scientist of the National Academy of Science and Technology; and Harvey Malolos, 2014 civil engineering board exam topnotcher. Hermosa and Malolos were both scholars of the city government. —Dexter Cabalza
