BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The head of the local office for one of the Birmingham Water Works Board's biggest contractors has been fired by his company who now says they're cooperating with investigations that may include Water Works business.

Jerry Jones was once a Vice President with Arcadis. Arcadis tells WBRC, there was an incident with Jones that violated company policies and procedures.

Once Arcadis got wind of that, it says it immediately launched an internal investigation and says its fully cooperating with state and federal authorities.

Last year, a federal subpoena was issued for some of Arcadis work with the Birmingham Water Works board according to AL.com. That subpoena asked for records relating to Jones.

Here's Arcadis full statement on Jones' firing:

"There was an incident involving a single Arcadis employee that violated company policies and procedures. Once the company became aware of the matter, it immediately launched a very thorough internal investigation into the matter. In addition, it fully cooperated with state and federal authorities.

As a result of the internal investigation, the employee has been separated from the company for violating company policies. Arcadis places integrity, one of the company's core values, at the center of everything it does. Arcadis strives to operate its business in an honest and responsible way, working to the highest professional standards.

The actions of one employee do not reflect the level of importance the company places on integrity. The company requires all employees to undergo training and acknowledge company processes and requirements that are in place.  It is using this incident as an opportunity to review its policies and procedures and make improvements where needed.

Arcadis and its Birmingham employees have strong, long-standing ties to the community, and remains committed to providing exceptional engineering services on various projects in the area that improve the quality of life for all citizens living in Birmingham and its surrounding communities."
