The number of students enrolled for fall classes at the University of Saskatchewan continues to grow.
Just over 20,600 undergraduate and graduate students were in class on the first day of the 2017-18 school year, up 2.1 per cent from the previous year.

Self-declared Aboriginal enrolment was up seven per cent to 2,401 while the number of international students remained steady at 2,210, up 0.8 per cent.
Alison Pickrell, the university’s assistant vice-provost, strategic enrolment management, said the numbers align with their expectations.
“It is still early in the year, however, we anticipate that by the time we reach the end of the academic year our total numbers will meet or exceed the 24,571 student count we saw in the previous year,” Pickrell said in a statement.

Pickrell added the increase in international students is due, in part, to Canada being an inclusive country.
“First and foremost, I believe more international students are coming to Canada because of the country’s reputation for offering high-quality education, but also because we are seen to be a safe, inclusive and welcoming country,” she said.
More detailed enrolment numbers will be released by the university in October.
