The Colorado Department of Transportation will host three open houses in May for the public to learn about changes coming to bus transit along Federal Boulevard.

As one of the busiest transit corridors in metro Denver, buses on Federal Boulevard experience significant delays, resulting in long travel times. CDOT plans to improve travel along this 18-mile stretch with bus rapid transit (BRT) service.

BRT is a high-capacity, efficient bus service that incorporates elements of light-rail, such as all-door boarding, enhanced stations, purchasing tickets before riding and dedicated bus lanes.

Bringing BRT to Federal Boulevard from Dartmouth Avenue in the south to 120th Avenue in the north will improve transportation for all travelers along the corridor with attractive enhanced transit stations and a fast and effective transit route, according to RTD.

The project is currently in the design phase, and construction is set to begin in 2027 with service starting by 2030.

First event in Englewood

A kickoff event is scheduled for 5 p.m. May 9 on the second floor of the Englewood Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Pkwy.

Two more are scheduled, at 5 p.m. May 13 at Colorado Department of Transportation headquarters at 2829 W Howard Pl. in Denver and at 5 p.m. May 15 at The MAC in Westminster, 3295 W. 72nd Ave.

The project team will be on hand to answer questions related to station locations, shelter designs and bus service planning on Federal Boulevard. The public is invited to attend one or more of the open houses to hear the latest information on the project and provide their input.

“The Federal Boulevard BRT project is a priority in CDOT’s 10-Year-Plan and is pivotal in providing transportation choices,” said Jessica Myklebust, Region 1 Transportation Director. “It will positively transform the corridor by providing the community with safe, fast, and reliable bus service. We’re looking forward to hearing feedback from the community.”

CDOT representatives and project team members will be available to answer questions and provide information. Burritos, beverages and children’s activities will be provided.

Those planning on attending can RSVP at FederalBlvdBRT@gmail.com. Spanish and Vietnamese interpreters will be available at each meeting.
